Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are infected with HIV-1 only (not also infected with HIV-2)
- You are 18 years old or older when joining the trial
- You are able to give written consent to participate
- You are covered by French Social Security
- You are willing and able to follow the requirements of the study
- You are not currently taking antiretroviral (HIV) treatment (for most groups — see below)
The trial has four different groups, and you may qualify for one of them:
- Group 1 (ALT): You have been HIV-1 positive for at least 8 years, have no HIV symptoms, are not on HIV treatment, and your immune cell count (CD4) has stayed above 600 and been stable or rising over the last 5 years — regardless of your virus levels
- Group 2 (HIC): You have been HIV-1 positive for at least 5 years, have no symptoms, are not on HIV treatment, and your last 5 virus level tests have all been very low (under 400 copies/mL)
- Group 3 (ALT HIC): You meet the conditions of both Group 1 and Group 2 combined
- Group 4 (PTC): You previously had a high virus level, took HIV treatment for at least 12 months, then stopped treatment, and your virus levels have stayed very low (under 400 copies/mL) for at least 12 months after stopping — with at most one brief temporary rise in between (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently under a court-ordered legal protection measure (confirm with trial site)
