Who may be able to join
- People aged 18 to 70 years (or 18 to 85 years for those with Alzheimer's disease or healthy volunteers taking part as controls).
- People with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) where the disease has been active — meaning at least one relapse in the past 12 months, at least one area of active inflammation seen on a specific type of brain scan (MRI with contrast) within the past 12 months, or at least one new bright spot on a different type of brain scan within the past 6 months.

- For the steroids treatment group: people who have been prescribed steroids by their MS specialist but have not yet started taking them.
- People with Alzheimer's disease who score between 20 and 26 on a standard memory and thinking test called the MMSE.
- People who are willing to have PET and MRI brain scans as part of the study.
- People who are willing and able to give their informed consent to take part.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have another known brain or nervous system condition, a previous significant head injury, or a history of substance abuse.
- People who have bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
- People with other health conditions that would make the study procedures unsafe for them.
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who are trying to become pregnant or think they may be pregnant.
- People who experience severe anxiety in enclosed spaces (claustrophobia).
- People who have implanted medical devices that are not safe to use near an MRI machine.
- For the Ocrelizumab treatment group: people who are already receiving Ocrelizumab.
- For the steroids treatment group: people who have already begun steroid treatment.
- For the Ocrelizumab group, the steroids group, and the long-term follow-up group: people whose blood test shows an abnormal level of a kidney marker called creatinine.
