Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have survived a cardiac arrest that was successfully treated, where the cause was a documented dangerous heart rhythm (ventricular fibrillation or a very fast ventricular heartbeat)
- People who have been diagnosed with variant angina — a condition where the heart's arteries go into spasm, causing changes on a heart tracing — confirmed either during a heart artery scan or through a specific spasm-triggering test called an ergonovine provocation test
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a significant blockage (more than 50%) in a heart artery, found during a heart scan
- People with known heart disease linked to sudden cardiac arrest, including: severely reduced heart pumping function (ejection fraction below 35%), a section of the heart that does not move or has developed an abnormal bulge, a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickened heart muscle), or a condition called arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (a disease affecting the right side of the heart)
- People with advanced heart failure that severely limits daily activity (classified as New York Heart Association class III or IV)
- People with a history of abnormal heart rhythms that required certain rhythm-controlling medications (such as flecainide, propafenone, amiodarone, sotalol, or dronedarone)
- People who have previously had a catheter-based procedure to treat a dangerous heart rhythm in the lower chambers of the heart
- People with inherited heart electrical conditions such as long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, or catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia
- People who already have a pacemaker or an implanted heart defibrillator device
- People with a certain type of heart conduction block (second or third degree AV block) not caused by reduced blood supply to the heart, that requires a permanent pacemaker
- People with significant brain or neurological impairment following their cardiac arrest (confirm with trial site for how this is assessed)
- People with a life expectancy of less than 2 years
- People with a psychiatric condition that may be made worse by having a device implanted, or that may prevent them from attending regular follow-up appointments
