Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with heart failure and experience typical symptoms and signs of the condition, with a functional severity rating of Class II or above (meaning symptoms appear during ordinary activity or less)
- People whose heart failure blood marker (NT-proBNP) is above 350 pg/mL, or who have been hospitalised for heart failure in the past 12 months
- People with a weakened pumping heart (HFrEF) where the heart pumps out less than 40% of its blood with each beat
- People with a stiffened heart (HFpEF) where the heart pumps out 50% or more of its blood with each beat, along with specific signs that the heart is not relaxing properly (confirm specific measurements with trial site)
- People without any history of heart failure or previous heart disease may also be eligible to join as a comparison group
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious heart valve disease
- People with certain types of heart muscle disease where the muscle is abnormally thickened or infiltrated by other substances
- People who have had an acute heart attack or serious chest pain episode within the past 30 days
- People with severe chronic lung disease (rated as GOLD stage 3 or 4)
- People with heart defects present from birth
- People with disease affecting the sac surrounding the heart
- People with severely reduced kidney function (eGFR below 15 mL/min/1.73m²) or who require dialysis
- People with an irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) where the heart is beating faster than 140 beats per minute
- People with severe anaemia (very low red blood cell levels, specifically haemoglobin below 8 g/dL)
- People with significant liver problems
- People currently dealing with active cancer
