Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with an ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel) or a transient ischemic attack (TIA, sometimes called a "mini-stroke").
- People whose stroke or TIA symptoms started less than 30 days ago.
- People who have been found to have a buildup of fatty deposits (atherosclerosis) in the blood vessels leading to or within the brain, confirmed by an ultrasound or a type of medical scan (such as a CT scan, MRI, or a specialised X-ray of blood vessels).
- People who also have evidence of fatty deposit buildup in the blood vessels of the heart, shown by a scan or heart test, OR who have had a procedure to open or bypass blocked heart arteries in the past.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a serious cancer, poor organ function, or a blood disease where their estimated life expectancy is less than 5 years.
- People who do not wish to take part in the research.
