Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who experience more than 10 breathing interruptions per hour during non-REM (lighter stage) sleep while lying on their back, as measured by a sleep study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a medical condition other than well-controlled high blood pressure or mild diabetes.
  • People who take any medication known to affect breathing, sleep, wakefulness, or muscle function.
  • People who have a fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia).
  • People who are unable to sleep on their back.
  • People who have an allergy to any of the medications being tested in this trial.

  • People who have an underlying heart condition, such as an irregular heartbeat.
  • People who take psychiatric medications, including MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, SNRIs, or any of the specific medications being studied in this trial for an existing medical condition.
  • Women who are pregnant.
  • People who have high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension).
  • People with severe sleep apnoea where the average blood oxygen level drops below 88% during sleep.
