Who may be able to join
- People who have already met all the requirements to be enrolled in the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Network (DIAN) or DIAN Extended Registry (DIAN EXR) study.
- Men or women aged 18 years or older.
- People who are either cognitively normal or have mild dementia, as determined by a clinical assessment.
- People who are able and willing to undergo brain scans (MRI or CT scan, and PET scan) and a radioactive tracer injection as part of the study.
- Women who have not yet gone through menopause will need to take a urine pregnancy test within 24 hours before receiving the study drug.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have any condition that, in the investigator's opinion, could increase health risks, make it hard to tolerate the study procedures, or affect the quality of the data collected (for example, severe chronic back pain that might prevent lying still during scans).
- People who are considered unlikely to be able to complete the imaging procedures for any reason.
- People who have a known allergy or sensitivity to the study imaging agent [18F]MK-6240 or any of its ingredients.
- People who have medical reasons that make PET, PET-CT, or MRI scans unsafe for them (for example, having certain electronic medical devices implanted, or being unable to lie still for extended periods).
- People with severe claustrophobia (extreme fear of enclosed spaces).
- Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, and women who do not agree to use reliable contraception or to avoid sexual activity for 24 hours after receiving the study imaging injection.
- People who are currently taking part in another research study involving an active treatment for Alzheimer's disease, an experimental drug, device, imaging study, or placebo within the past 30 days before screening, and throughout this trial up to two weeks after any study-related procedures.
- People who, apart from the DIAN study, have recently taken part in other research involving radiation exposure (within the past 12 months), where the total radiation exposure from research in a given year would exceed the limits set by US federal regulations (confirm with trial site).
