Who might be able to join this trial:
- People whose first language is English
- People with normal vision, or vision that is corrected to normal with glasses or contact lenses (20/40 binocular vision or better, as measured by a standard eye chart)
- People with a specific type and degree of hearing loss — sensorineural hearing loss — measured at a moderate level across a range of sound frequencies (confirm with trial site for exact hearing test results required)
- People who have a Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) score of 0.5 or 1, which indicates slight or mild difficulties with memory, thinking, and daily activities
- People who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's-type dementia or a mild memory-related cognitive impairment, with a thinking and memory test score (MoCA) of 18 or above
- People who are living in their own home
- People who have completed at least Year 10 of education
- People who are able to give their own informed consent to take part, as assessed through a consent evaluation
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious, unstable, or worsening health conditions that the research team considers would put them at unacceptable risk by taking part
- People who have ongoing communication difficulties caused by another neurological condition (such as stroke or brain tumour), a neurodevelopmental condition (such as Down syndrome), or head or neck cancer
- People with a history of a major psychiatric condition, such as schizophrenia or significant untreated depression
- People who are already taking part in another research study focused on hearing, language, or communication
- People whose hearing loss is caused by a blockage or structural problem in the ear (conductive hearing loss), was present from birth, or fluctuates over time
- People who currently wear hearing aids regularly, defined as wearing them at least 4 hours a day on most days over the past year
