Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 75 years old
- You have tinnitus (ringing in one or both ears) that is constant and non-pulsating, and does not involve balance problems — you may or may not also have hearing loss
- Your tinnitus has not improved despite trying treatments
- Your tinnitus severity rates 7 or higher out of 10 on a pain/intensity scale
- Your tinnitus significantly affects your quality of life, scoring above 76 on a standard tinnitus impact questionnaire (grade 5)
- You are covered by social security or an equivalent scheme
- You are willing and able to give written informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- You have balance or inner ear problems
- You have epilepsy
- You have another serious ongoing illness
- You have a brain tumor
- You have a medical reason why you cannot have surgery or anesthesia
- You have a history of brain infection caused by the herpes virus
- You have a reason why you cannot have an MRI, MEG, or CT scan
- You are taking blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications that cannot safely be paused in the 3 months before and after surgery (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently participating in another treatment-based clinical trial
- You have progressive dementia or a serious psychiatric condition
- You have had significant suicidal thoughts within the last 3 months, based on a specific depression assessment score (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently being held in a psychiatric facility involuntarily
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or of childbearing potential and not using contraception
- You are under a legal guardianship or protection order
- You are currently restricted from freedom by a court or administrative authority
