Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are willing and able to give their agreement to take part in the study
  • Healthy volunteers who are willing to give their agreement to take part in the study
  • People who have previously been diagnosed with a heart attack

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are unwilling to take part
  • People who experience fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia)
  • People who have a medical device implanted in or near their heart, or other reasons why an MRI scan would not be safe for them
  • People who, during the MRI scan, are found to have had a previous heart attack they were unaware of, or are found to have any other heart condition they did not previously know about — these individuals would not be included as healthy volunteers, even if they considered themselves healthy at the time of the study
  • People who are pregnant
  • People whose body size may make it difficult to fit comfortably inside either of the MRI scanners (the opening of the scanner is 50cm in diameter)
  • People who have abnormal kidney function, which would prevent them from receiving the contrast dye used during the scan
