Who might be able to join this trial:
Group 1 (children aged 10–24 months):
- Children between 10 and 24 months old
- Children whose family is registered with the social health insurance system, and whose parents agree to take part
- Children who were born deaf with severe to profound hearing loss and are about to receive a cochlear implant (a surgically fitted hearing device)
- Children with normal hearing, confirmed by a routine ear test called an acoustic otoemissions test, in both ears
Group 2 (children aged 3–7 years):
- Children between 3 and 7 years old
- Children whose family is registered with the social health insurance system, and whose parents agree to take part
- Children who were born deaf, already have a cochlear implant, and received that implant before the age of 2
- Children with normal hearing, confirmed by a routine ear test called an acoustic otoemissions test, in both ears
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have a psychological or neurological condition
- Children who have another sensory impairment (such as vision problems) or a movement/motor disability
- Children raised in a bilingual household
- Children who take medications that affect alertness or wakefulness
- Children where both parents are under a legal protection order (confirm with trial site)
