Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been confirmed through a tissue biopsy to have a specific type of liver cancer called intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA)
- This is either your first time being diagnosed with iCCA, or the cancer has come back only in the liver after a previous liver surgery
- Doctors have decided that surgery to remove part of your liver is not possible, due to where the tumor is located or because your liver is not healthy enough
- Scans have shown no signs that the cancer has spread into nearby blood vessels, outside the liver, or into lymph nodes
- A special full-body scan (PET-CT) has shown no signs of cancer spread outside the liver
- You have been accepted as a candidate for a liver transplant before your cancer got worse while on chemotherapy
- At least 12 months have passed between your iCCA diagnosis and the date you are placed on the liver transplant waiting list
- A CT or MRI scan done within the 4 weeks before your assessment at the transplant centre shows no signs of cancer outside the liver
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are in good general health and are able to carry out everyday activities with little or no difficulty (confirm with trial site)
- You are willing to give your formal consent and are able to attend appointments for treatment and follow-up
- You have already received at least 6 months of chemotherapy or a local treatment directed at the liver tumour
Who may not be able to join:
- The cancer has grown into major blood vessels near the liver
- There has been a rupture or tear in the lining surrounding the abdominal organs
- You have lost more than 15% of your body weight in the last 6 months
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 30
- You have or have had another type of cancer, unless it was fully treated more than 5 years ago and has not come back
- You have a known history of HIV infection
- You have previously had a transplant of a solid organ or bone marrow
- You have substance use issues, or medical, mental health, or social circumstances that could affect your ability to take part in the trial (confirm with trial site)
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to a medication called rapamycin
- Your cancer has previously spread to areas outside the liver
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- The trial doctor has any other concern that makes participation unsuitable for you (confirm with trial site)
