Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (a type of heart muscle disease not caused by blocked arteries, either with no known cause or running in the family)
- People whose heart pumping function is at or below 35%, and whose heart scan shows scarring in the heart muscle
- People who have had a specific type of heart scan called a cardiac MRI (CMR) as part of their diagnosis
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are willing and able to give written consent to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose heart disease was caused by a previous heart attack or procedures to open blocked heart arteries
- People with other types of heart muscle disease, such as thickened heart muscle disease, certain inherited or infiltrative heart conditions, or reversible heart conditions (including stress-related, pregnancy-related, or chemotherapy-related heart disease)
- People who have had inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis)
- People who cannot safely have a cardiac MRI — for example, due to severe claustrophobia, having a pacemaker or defibrillator, certain metal implants in the head or brain, or a known allergy to the contrast dye used in MRI scans
- People with severely reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site for exact measurement thresholds)
- People who currently have a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator device
- People who already have a clear medical need for an implanted heart device (for example, following a survived cardiac arrest)
- People who are pregnant
- People currently taking part in another randomised clinical trial
- People whose life expectancy is less than 2 years
