Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are aged 18 to 69 years old
- You are willing to take part in the study
- You have been diagnosed with either chronic maxillary sinusitis (long-lasting sinus problems lasting 12 weeks or more) or recurring acute maxillary sinusitis (4 or more short sinus infections per year)
- If you have chronic maxillary sinusitis, your symptoms have not improved after at least 3 months of using a steroid nasal spray
- If you have chronic maxillary sinusitis, your symptom score on a standard questionnaire (called SNOT-22) is 8 points or higher
- If you have recurring acute sinus infections, there is no minimum symptom score required
- If you have chronic maxillary sinusitis, your CT scan results show that the inflammation is mainly limited to the upper cheek sinuses, with only minor or no involvement of other sinuses (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have chronic sinusitis with nasal polyps (growths inside the nose)
- You have significant inflammation in the sinuses behind or above your eyes, in addition to your cheek sinus problems
- You have had previous nasal or sinus surgery
- You have a tumour in your nose or sinuses
- Your sinus problems are caused by a dental issue
- Your facial pain is caused by something other than sinusitis
- You have cystic fibrosis
- You have a seriously weakened immune system
- You have an inherited condition affecting the tiny hairs in your airways that help clear mucus (confirm with trial site)
- You have a fungal infection in your sinuses
- You have a condition involving inflammation of your blood vessels or certain types of tissue disease (confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious ongoing illness affecting your overall health
- You have or have had cancer
- You are pregnant
- You are currently experiencing an active sinus infection or a flare-up of your symptoms at the time of enrolment
