Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously received a cochlear implant.
- People whose hearing loss began before they learned to speak and understand language.
- People whose inner ear has an unusual structure, as seen on a CT scan.
- People diagnosed with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, a specific type of hearing condition.
- People with a hearing-related condition caused by a tumour on the hearing nerve (such as a vestibular schwannoma) or a stroke.
- People who are unwilling or unable to follow all study requirements, including being randomly assigned to a treatment group.
- People who have additional medical or personal circumstances that would prevent them from completing all study requirements.
- People who have a medical condition that makes surgery unsafe for them.
- People who have chosen a Med-El cochlear implant device.
