Who might be able to join this trial:
Group 1 – People with a cochlear implant:
- You have a cochlear implant made by Oticon Medical, in one ear only
- You have been using your cochlear implant for at least 6 months
- When tested in quiet conditions, you can correctly identify at least 40% of two-syllable words with your implanted ear
- When tested in quiet conditions, your other ear (with or without a hearing aid) correctly identifies no more than 30% of two-syllable words
Group 2 – People with normal hearing:
- Your hearing is normal for your age, confirmed by a hearing test
For everyone in both groups:
- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- French is your first language
- Your vision is normal, with or without glasses or contact lenses
- You do not have any eye conditions such as cataracts, nystagmus, amblyopia, or macular degeneration
- You are not taking any medications that affect mood, mental health, or the nervous system
- You have no history of neurological conditions, such as a head injury or stroke
- You are willing to read and sign a consent form before taking part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have an eye condition such as cataracts, nystagmus, amblyopia, or macular degeneration
- You are currently taking medications that affect mental health or the nervous system (such as antidepressants or similar drugs)
- You have had a neurological condition — such as a head injury or stroke — that has affected your thinking, eye movements, or pupil reactions
- You are not registered with, or entitled to benefits from, the French social security system
- You are receiving French State Medical Assistance (Aide Médicale d'État)
- You are under any form of legal protection, such as guardianship or curatorship (confirm with trial site)
