Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are at least 19 years of age.
- People who have been taking beta-blocker medication continuously for at least 1 year following a heart attack, regardless of when the heart attack was diagnosed.
- People who are able to verbally confirm they understand the risks and benefits of the trial, and who (or whose legal representative) provide written consent before any study procedures begin.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose heart pumping strength (measured by an ultrasound of the heart after a heart attack) was found to be below 40%, or who have never had a heart ultrasound performed after their heart attack.
- People who have a history of heart failure.
- People for whom beta-blocker medication is not medically appropriate — for example, those with a history of symptomatic asthma, a serious chronic lung condition, certain heart rhythm problems, a pacemaker, or other reasons a doctor determines make beta-blockers unsuitable.
- People with a non-heart-related health condition that means life expectancy is less than 1 year, or that may make it difficult to follow the study's requirements, as judged by the trial doctor.
- People who have a history of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm condition).
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
