Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
- Children and teenagers between 6 and 18 years old
- Patients (and at least one of their legal guardians or parents) who have a good understanding of German
- Patients who came to the Emergency Department at the University Children's Hospital Zurich because a doctor diagnosed them with a concussion
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who were born prematurely (before 37 weeks of pregnancy)
- People with a diagnosed hearing problem
- People with a pre-existing psychiatric, syndrome-related, or neurological condition (having had a previous concussion is the one exception to this)
- People with a skin condition or skin problem around the face or ears that needs treatment
- People who are currently using medications or substances that affect the brain or nervous system
- Patients who have another injury at the same time that needs strong pain medication, requires a longer hospital stay, or limits the use of their dominant hand
- Patients who have previously had a moderate or severe traumatic brain injury
- Control group participants who have an injury to the dominant hand, head, arm, or leg
- Control group participants who have had any traumatic brain injury before, of any severity
For the optional MRI scan (applies to both groups), additional criteria apply. People who may not be able to take part in the MRI portion include those who:
- Are younger than 8 years old
- Do not meet all MRI safety requirements (confirm with trial site)
- The participant and their legal representative do not wish to be informed if something unexpected is found during the scan
- Girls who are pregnant or breastfeeding
