Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You have been diagnosed with stable angina pectoris (chest pain or discomfort caused by reduced blood flow to the heart that occurs in a predictable pattern)
  • You have blockages in 2 or 3 coronary arteries (the blood vessels that supply your heart)
  • You are on the waiting list for bypass heart surgery (CABG), or you have chosen not to have bypass surgery and are being treated with medication only, or your doctor has decided that bypass surgery is too risky for you and has recommended medication alone
  • You are not scheduled for urgent or emergency bypass surgery
  • You have been on the best available medication treatment for at least 2 weeks
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form and follow the study requirements

  • You are retired, not working during regular working hours, or you are able and willing to make time to take part in the research

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have congestive heart failure (a condition where the heart cannot pump blood effectively)
  • You have chronic heart failure that severely limits your physical activity (classified as NYHA Class III or IV) (confirm with trial site)
  • Your heart's pumping strength is measured at less than 35% (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a significant blockage in the main left artery of your heart that is not protected by a bypass (confirm with trial site)
  • Your blood pressure is higher than 180/110 mmHg
  • You are currently experiencing an acute coronary syndrome (a sudden, serious heart condition such as a heart attack or unstable chest pain)
  • You are currently experiencing acute heart failure (a sudden worsening of heart failure)
  • You have severe leaking of the aortic heart valve (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a dangerous, life-threatening irregular heartbeat
  • You have atrial fibrillation (an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm)
  • You have frequent abnormal heartbeats originating from the lower chambers of your heart (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a disease that causes blockages in the arteries of your arms or legs
  • You have inflammation of a vein (phlebitis)
  • You have a blood clot in a deep vein (deep vein thrombosis)
  • You have a condition that causes problems with blood clotting or unusual bleeding
  • You have severe chronic kidney disease
  • You have an aneurysm (an abnormal bulge in a blood vessel) in your main artery (aorta) or abdomen
  • You have osteoarthritis (joint pain and stiffness caused by wear and tear)
  • You have ongoing low back pain
  • You are pregnant
  • You are currently participating in another clinical trial
