Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) either through a tissue biopsy or through a CT or MRI scan using a specific liver imaging assessment system
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People whose general physical functioning falls within a certain range, meaning they are able to carry out at least some daily activities (a doctor would assess this using a standard scale called ECOG, scoring 0–2)
- People whose liver function falls within a certain acceptable range, as measured by a scoring system called Child Pugh (scores A5, A6, B7, or B8 are required — a doctor can confirm this)
- People whose liver tumour is no larger than 5cm in size
- People who have no more than 3 liver tumours to be treated in this trial
- People whose tumour(s) are in a position that makes them suitable for both a specialised radiation treatment (called HIGRT) and a procedure performed by an interventional radiologist
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a Child Pugh liver function score of B9 or Class C, indicating more advanced liver dysfunction
- People who have fluid build-up in the abdomen (ascites) that comes and goes or is unstable
- People who are unable to complete quality of life questionnaires at the start of the trial
- People who are currently receiving other systemic (whole-body) drug treatments for their liver cancer at the same time
- People who have previously had radiation treatment to the liver — unless the lead researcher specifically approves their participation
