"Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children who have been on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilator) through a tube placed in the mouth or nose for at least 48 hours by 7 a.m. on the third day in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Who may not be able to join:
- Children for whom life support is currently being withdrawn or where withdrawal is expected within the next 48 hours
- Children whose chest or abdomen is currently open (such as after certain surgeries where the body cannot yet be closed)
- Children who are currently receiving ECMO, which is a machine that does the work of the heart and lungs outside the body
