Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes
- People who have been diagnosed with heart failure with a reduced pumping function (the heart pumps out less than 50% of the blood it holds), rated as Class II or III severity by their doctor
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old
- People whose Body Mass Index (BMI) falls between 23 and 38
- People whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c) is between 5.5% and 10%
- People whose blood pressure is at or below 145/85 mmHg
- People whose kidneys are functioning at or above a certain level, measured by a test called eGFR of at least 30 (confirm with trial site)
- People who have been on a stable, consistent dose of their heart failure and diabetes medications
- People whose body weight has stayed roughly the same (within about 4 pounds) over the past 3 months
- People who do not have severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
- People who are able to safely have an MRI scan, meaning they have no metal implants such as plates, screws, shrapnel, or pins, and do not have a cardiac pacemaker
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently taking certain diabetes medications, specifically SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, or pioglitazone
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
- People who have a known allergy or sensitivity to the study medications or their ingredients
- People who have been diagnosed with cancer
- People who currently have a drug or alcohol dependency
- People who are unwilling or unable to provide written consent to participate, or whose legal guardian is unwilling or unable to do so
