Who might be able to join this trial:
- Chinese children between 6 and 11 years old who snore regularly (at least 3 nights per week) and have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep) confirmed by an overnight sleep study, along with enlarged tonsils and adenoids that a doctor has recommended removing through surgery.
- Children without obstructive sleep apnoea (confirmed by an overnight sleep study) who are having their tonsils and adenoids removed for other reasons, such as repeated tonsil infections.
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have previously had surgery on their upper airway (nose, mouth, or throat area).
- Children who have a genetic condition or a syndrome that affects their development or health.
- Children who have a condition affecting their muscles or nerves, whether they were born with it or developed it later.
- Children who have a weakened immune system, whether they were born with it or developed it later.
- Children who have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (a group of conditions affecting how the body processes energy).
- Children who have abnormalities in the structure of their face or skull, whether present from birth or developed later.
