Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have given written consent to take part before treatment begins, including consent to radiation and medication
- People aged 18 to 70 years old, of any gender
- People who have been newly diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), confirmed by a tissue or cell sample test
- People whose cancer has spread to distant areas of the body, including the liver
- People with a physical functioning score (ECOG) of 0 to 2, meaning they are able to carry out at least some daily activities (confirm with trial site)
- People whose doctors expect them to live for more than 3 months
- People whose bone marrow is working well enough, based on blood test results showing healthy levels of red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells
- People whose liver is functioning within acceptable ranges, based on blood test results for liver enzymes and bilirubin levels
- People whose kidneys are functioning within acceptable ranges, based on blood test results for creatinine levels
- People who have not previously had any chest (thoracic) radiotherapy or surgery for this cancer
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of mental illness
- People who have or have had another type of cancer
- People who currently have an active serious infection caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses that requires treatment through a drip (intravenous antibiotics, antifungal, or antiviral therapy)
- People with serious heart conditions, including uncontrolled high blood pressure, unstable chest pain (angina), a heart attack within the past 12 months, or serious irregular heartbeat
- People with poorly controlled diabetes who their doctor considers unsuitable for chemotherapy
- People with a history of hepatitis (liver infection or inflammation) or cirrhosis (liver scarring)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are unlikely to follow the trial's requirements as judged by the research team
- People whom the researchers consider unsuitable for the trial for any other reason
