Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, based on a standard disease activity score (DAS-28 score above 3.2)
- People aged between 18 and 60 years old whose arthritis is currently active, as confirmed by an experienced arthritis specialist
- People currently being treated with standard arthritis medications known as DMARDs, but not currently on cytokine inhibitor medications
- People who are willing to sign a consent form and accept being randomly assigned to one of the treatment groups in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously been treated with a type of arthritis medication called biological DMARDs
- People who have a current or past diagnosis of serious heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a lung condition)
- People who are allergic to or cannot tolerate the medications fexofenadine or methotrexate
- People with a history of alcohol abuse
- People who have recently made changes to their medications, such as changing the dose or switching to a different medicine (confirm with trial site)
- People currently taking hormone replacement therapy, warfarin, or other blood-thinning medications
