Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on recognized medical guidelines
  • For one part of the study (Sub-study 1): Your standard first-line arthritis medications have not worked well enough, and your doctor considers you ready to try a more advanced type of medication
  • For another part of the study (Sub-study 2): At least one specific type of advanced arthritis medication (called a TNF inhibitor) has not worked well enough for you, and your doctor considers you ready to try a different advanced medication

Who may not be able to join:

  • For Sub-study 1: You have already used advanced biologic or targeted arthritis medications before; for Sub-study 2: You have used advanced arthritis medications other than TNF inhibitors before
  • You have a condition that makes it unsafe to take advanced arthritis medications, such as an active infection, untreated latent tuberculosis (TB), current cancer, serious organ problems, a history of blood clots (unless you are on blood thinners), high cardiovascular risk, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have another inflammatory condition alongside your arthritis that requires its own specific immune-suppressing treatment (for example, a form of lupus affecting the kidneys)
  • You are unable to give your consent or fill out study forms in English or French, even with help from someone else
