Who might be able to join this trial:

- People whose cardiogenic shock was caused by something other than a heart attack
- People already known to have severe, long-standing heart failure (classified as the most severe stage) who were being considered for, or have previously had, a mechanical heart pump (LVAD) or heart transplant before being placed on VA-ECMO
- People whose blood pressure remains dangerously low (MAP below 65 mmHg) even while on three blood pressure or heart-support medications
- People with a moderate to severe leaking heart valve (aortic regurgitation), as this is a safety concern with VA-ECMO
- People with a moderate to severe narrowing of the main heart valve (aortic stenosis), as this makes certain procedures used in the trial unsafe
- People who are actively experiencing bleeding that requires ongoing blood transfusions
- People showing signs of reduced blood supply to the lower limbs (ischemic lower extremities)
- People whose VA-ECMO circuit shows signs of blood clotting or buildup inside the tubing
- People showing signs of a serious body-wide infection (sepsis or septic shock)
- People whose heart scans (echocardiography) show a blood clot inside the left chamber of the heart, as this makes certain procedures used in the trial unsafe
