Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults aged 18 or older
• People who developed severe to profound hearing loss (in the ear or ears being implanted) after they had already learned to speak and hear
• People who have had a CT scan of their cochlear implant electrode taken after surgery
• People who had hearing tests — including tests for tones, speech in quiet, and speech in noisy conditions — completed before surgery
• People who have been implanted with a MED-EL brand cochlear implant
• People whose implant uses a Flex28, FlexSoft, or Standard electrode
• People whose newly implanted ear is planned to be fitted with a SONNET 2, SONNET 3, or RONDO 3 sound processor
• People whose sound processor on the newly implanted side has not yet been switched on for the first time
• People whose implant electrode has been inserted deeply enough into the inner ear (at least 450 degrees of the spiral structure) (confirm with trial site)
• People whose implant can use at least 10 active sound channels
• People who are fluent in the language used at the trial centre
• People who have signed and dated a consent form before any study procedures begin

Who may not be able to join:

• People who do not meet all of the inclusion criteria listed above
• People who use a combined Electric Acoustic Stimulation (EAS) sound processor, which combines a hearing aid and cochlear implant in one device
• People implanted with older MED-EL implant models known as C40+, C40X, or C40C
• People who have an Auditory Brainstem Implant (ABI) or a split electrode array, which are different types of hearing implant devices
• People who, in the medical opinion of the trial investigator, may be at increased risk or may not be able to fully complete the study for any reason
