Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People whose heart is pumping at less than 50% of its normal capacity (as measured by a heart function test called ejection fraction)
- People whose ejection fraction is between 36–50% and who also have elevated levels of certain heart stress markers in their blood (called BNP or NT-proBNP), and for whom a doctor has determined that an implantable heart device (ICD) is medically appropriate
- People with heart failure symptoms ranging from none to severe, as classified by a standard medical scale (NYHA class I–IV)
- People with a normal or near-normal electrical signal timing in their heart, measured as 110 milliseconds or less on a heart tracing test (ECG)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another serious illness where life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year
- People who are not able to give informed consent to participate in a study
- People who are pregnant
- People who have previously had surgery on their aortic heart valve
