Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are attending a scheduled cardiology or diabetes/hormone specialist follow-up appointment
- You are willing to fast before having a blood sample taken
- You are between 40 and 85 years old (inclusive)
- You do not object to taking part in this research
- You agree to have your biological samples stored and used for genetic analysis
- You fit into one of four specific groups: (1) no type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome and no heart failure; (2) no type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome but diagnosed with a specific type of heart failure (HFpEF or HFmrEF); (3) diagnosed with both type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome but no heart failure; or (4) diagnosed with both type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome and also diagnosed with HFpEF or HFmrEF
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of certain heart conditions (such as significant valve disease, heart damage from radiation or chemotherapy, or a protein build-up condition called amyloidosis) other than the specific types of heart failure mentioned above
- You currently have or recently had an active infection or widespread inflammation in your body
- You have a known history of blocked heart arteries (coronary artery disease)
- Your blood pressure is not well controlled (above 160/100 mmHg)
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are currently under a court or government-ordered restriction of personal freedom
- You are currently receiving psychiatric inpatient care
- You are under a legal protection order such as guardianship or curatorship
- You are already taking part in another clinical trial that has an active exclusion period
- You have significant kidney disease where your kidneys are working at a low level (confirm with trial site)
- Depending on which group you may qualify for, having or not having diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or a certain level of heart pumping function may affect your eligibility (confirm with trial site)
