Who might be able to join this trial:
For the forward-looking (prospective) part of the study:
- You have been diagnosed with, or are suspected to have, a heart condition caused by an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia-induced cardiomyopathy), based on your medical records or a referral from a heart or internal medicine specialist
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form to take part in the study
For the backward-looking (retrospective) part of the study:
- Your medical records from 2010–2021 show that your heart's pumping ability was significantly reduced, and you were also diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat around the same time (within one year before or after)
Who may not be able to join:
- Anyone under 18 years of age
- Anyone who has refused the general consent policy of the University Hospital Basel
- Anyone who is currently seriously unwell — for example, having a heart attack, severe infection (sepsis), major injury, recent heart surgery, or a state of medical shock (confirm with trial site)
- Anyone whose life expectancy is less than one year, such as those receiving end-of-life or palliative care for advanced cancer
- Anyone whose reduced heart pumping ability was clearly caused by a sudden, severe event such as a major heart attack, cardiac arrest, or severe shock from another cause (for the retrospective part)
