Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with stage I, II, or III colon or rectal cancer (confirmed by a laboratory test on tissue) and have finished standard treatment — including surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation — at least 2 months ago.
- People aged 18 years or older.
- People who are able and willing to follow the study procedures and instructions throughout the trial.
- People who are willing to sign a written consent form showing they understand and agree to take part.
- People who are able to use reliable contraception (such as hormonal methods, barrier methods, or abstinence) for the duration of the study — this applies to both women who could become pregnant and to men.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an investigational treatment.
- People who are currently receiving any other cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or any other anti-cancer agent.
- People who have regularly drunk more than 2 cups of coffee (8 oz per cup) per day, on at least 3 days per week, during the past month.
- People who have used coffee supplements (such as green coffee extract) within the past month.
- People who have been diagnosed with certain health conditions that may be made worse by coffee, including heart rhythm problems, insomnia, tremors, tics, generalised anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, panic attacks, Tourette's syndrome, epilepsy, or overactive bladder.
- People who have had a bad reaction to coffee in the past, or who cannot tolerate drinking coffee.
- People who are unable or unwilling to swallow capsules.
- People who have a history of problems absorbing food or medications, uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhoea, or any condition that could interfere with how oral medications are absorbed.
- People with any serious uncontrolled illness — such as an active infection, heart failure, unstable chest pain, or significant mental health or social circumstances — that the trial doctor believes could affect safety, participation, or the reliability of results.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the effects of coffee on unborn babies and nursing infants are not yet known.
- People who currently have another cancer for which they are receiving active treatment at the same time.
- People who have a known positive test result for HIV, hepatitis C, or active or chronic hepatitis B.
