Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are at least 18 years old
- People for whom a procedure to open blocked heart arteries (called PCI) is recommended according to current European cardiology guidelines, or for whom this procedure has already been planned as part of their regular treatment
- People who have a new artery blockage or narrowing that measures between 2 and 4 mm in length
- People who have signed a form giving their informed consent to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have refused to take part in the study
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People experiencing a severe heart attack with complete circulatory collapse (sometimes called cardiogenic shock or Killip Class 4)
- People for whom blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications are not medically suitable
- People whose artery blockages are unlikely to be successfully treated with balloon angioplasty or stent placement
- People with a known sensitivity or allergy to Sirolimus (the drug used in the stent), Probucol (a carrier substance), any medications used during the procedure, or the metal components of the stent
- People with a known sensitivity to contrast dye used during the procedure, where pre-treatment to reduce a reaction is not possible
- People with a known allergy or medical reason to avoid Sirolimus
- People whose life expectancy is less than 2 years
- People who are already enrolled in another clinical trial
