Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must be 18 years of age or older
- You must be well enough to carry out daily activities, either fully or with some limitations (your doctor can confirm if your fitness level qualifies)
- You must be able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
- You must have between 1 and 5 liver spots (lesions), with any single one being no larger than 5cm, all located in one section of the liver, and a specialist medical team must agree they could be treated with a precise form of radiation therapy (SBRT) with the aim of curing you
- Your liver spots must have been found within 3 months of your original cancer diagnosis, and a specialist team must agree they may be suitable for SBRT with curative intent
- There must be a plan to surgically remove your original (primary) cancer tumour with the aim of curing you
- If you also have spots on your lungs that could potentially be removed or treated, you may still be eligible
- If you have colon cancer and have already had your primary colon tumour removed, you may still be eligible
- You must be willing and able to follow the study requirements, including filling in quality-of-life questionnaires
- Women who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test at the start of the study (confirm with trial site for full details)
- Male patients must agree not to donate sperm during the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have cancer that has spread to areas of the body outside the liver, other than lung spots that could potentially be removed or treated
- You are not considered suitable for liver surgery
- You are not considered suitable for the specialist radiation treatment (SBRT) used in this trial
- You have had another cancer diagnosed within the last 5 years (except a type of common skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma)
- You have previously had surgery or a tissue-destruction procedure (ablation) on your liver lesions
- There is a plan to remove both your primary tumour and your liver spots at the same time in one operation
- You are currently pregnant
- You are currently breastfeeding
- You have a severe form of liver scarring (cirrhosis) classified as Child-Pugh C (confirm with trial site)
