Who might be able to join this trial:
This trial has three different groups of participants. Each group has its own set of criteria.
Group A: Women with a serious mental illness (SMI) and HIV
- People who have been diagnosed with a current psychotic disorder, mood disorder, or another condition causing difficulties with daily life (not including substance use disorders or developmental disorders), as confirmed by a clinician interview
- People who have a confirmed HIV-positive diagnosis
- People who are between 18 and 55 years of age
- People who are female
- People who are able to understand and agree to participate, and can sign a consent form
- People who speak English or Setswana
- People who are citizens of Botswana
For women being considered as peer co-leaders within this group, the above criteria apply, plus:
- People who have been consistently taking their psychiatric medications
- People whose mental health symptoms have been stable for more than 2 years
- People who have been consistently following their HIV treatment (ART) plan
Group B: Family members of women with SMI and HIV
- People who have been identified by the participant and/or their clinician as the family member most involved in the participant's care
- People who are between 18 and 65 years of age
- People who speak English or Setswana
- People who are citizens of Botswana
Group C: Policy makers and other stakeholders
- People who are between 18 and 55 years of age
- People who are senior government officials in Botswana's public sector ministries involved in developing, interpreting, or carrying out national mental health and HIV programs or related services; OR senior officials of the National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency (NAHPA); OR senior members of civil society organisations, non-government organisations, or similar bodies that support the Botswana government in delivering services to people living with HIV or mental health conditions
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose mental health diagnosis falls under substance use disorders or developmental disorders (Group A only)
- People who do not speak English or Setswana (all groups)
- People who are not citizens of Botswana (all groups)
- People outside the specified age ranges for each group
- People who are not female (Group A only)
- People who do not have the ability to understand and give informed consent (Group A only)
