Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 40 years or older, of any gender
- People who have been found to have early-stage plaque buildup in the arteries of the heart (detected by a heart imaging scan called a coronary CT angiogram or coronary angiogram) within the past 2 years, without having had a heart-related event after that scan
- People whose arteries are not blocked enough to require a procedure to open them up (less than 50% narrowing)
- People who are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of diagnosed heart or blood vessel disease, such as a heart attack, heart failure, disease in the leg arteries, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), significant narrowing of the neck arteries (more than 50%), or a procedure on the neck arteries
- People who have previously had a procedure or surgery to open or bypass heart arteries and as a result need to take blood-thinning (antiplatelet) medication long-term
- People who are allergic to, or have a medical reason they cannot take, a medication called clopidogrel
- People who are already taking blood-thinning (anticoagulant) medication for another health condition
- People who have a history of a bleeding disorder, a clotting problem, or a serious bleeding episode that required them to stop taking antiplatelet medication
- People who have a surgery or medical procedure planned that would require them to stop antiplatelet medication for one month or more
- People who have a non-heart-related illness where their life expectancy is estimated to be 5 years or less at the time of joining the trial
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whom the treating doctor considers to be unsuitable for the trial for any other reason
