Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 years or older
- People who help care for a household member aged 50 or older who has been diagnosed with a heart failure condition (New York Heart Association Class II, III, or IV)
- People who provide at least 8 hours per week of unpaid care for that household member, and have been doing so for at least the past 3 months
- People who are physically able to take part in structured exercise such as walking and light upper body resistance exercises
- People who currently do less than 30 minutes of moderate exercise on fewer than 3 days per week
- People who can read, speak, and understand English at approximately a 5th grade level
- People who own a smartphone
- People who can be reached by phone call, text message, and email
- People who have at least a 6x6 foot clear space in their home suitable for physical activity
Who may not be able to join:
- People with medical or physical conditions that would prevent safe participation in physical activity — for example, being unable to walk one block or climb stairs without chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness; a history of falls; or serious or unstable heart or lung disease
- People whose score on a cognitive (thinking and memory) screening test called the TICS falls below 25, which may indicate difficulties with memory or thinking
- People who are unable to use technology
- People who took part in a physical activity program or intervention within the past 6 months
- People who are currently participating in a physical activity or behaviour change research trial
- People whose responses to a standard physical activity safety screening questionnaire (called the PAR-Q) suggest it may not be safe for them to begin an exercise program without further assessment (confirm with trial site)
