Who may be able to join
- People aged between 60 and 90 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with either mild cognitive impairment linked to Alzheimer's disease, or mild Alzheimer's disease, based on recognised international diagnostic guidelines (NIA-AA 2011 criteria)
- People whose depression symptoms score 10 or below on a standard depression rating scale (the HAMD-17)
- People whose neurological examination shows no significant or obvious signs of neurological problems
- People who have completed at least primary school education (up to Grade 6) and are able to complete thinking and memory tests
- People who are able to give their own informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose memory or thinking difficulties are caused by something other than Alzheimer's disease, such as stroke-related brain changes, brain infections, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, head injury, drug or alcohol effects, liver or lung disease affecting the brain, blood clots or tumours in the brain, thyroid or other hormone conditions, or vitamin deficiencies
- People with a history of neurological conditions such as stroke, a condition affecting the optic nerve and spinal cord (optic myelitis), Parkinson's disease, or epilepsy
- People with a history of psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, or delirium
- People with serious or unstable heart, lung, liver, kidney, hormone system, or blood-related conditions, or those with a serious illness such as cancer with a poor outlook
- People whose vision or hearing difficulties would significantly affect their ability to complete cognitive tests
- People with a history of severe alcohol misuse or drug misuse in the past two years
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial within the 30 days before their screening visit for this trial
- People for whom MRI scanning is not medically safe (confirm with trial site)
- People with specific dietary requirements, such as allergies to common foods or a medically required special diet
- People who would not be able to attend follow-up appointments for at least 6 months, whether due to health reasons or plans to relocate
