Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been formally diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
- People who have been using a CPAP or BiPAP breathing machine for at least 3 months, wearing it for more than 6 hours a night on at least 75% of nights, and whose sleep apnea is well controlled on the machine (confirm with trial site for how this is measured).
- People who still feel excessively sleepy during the day despite using their breathing machine, as measured by a standard sleepiness questionnaire score above 10.
- People who are currently taking medication to help with alertness, provided the dose has been stable for at least one month before the study and would remain unchanged during the study.
- People who have been prescribed bright light therapy but have not used it for at least one month before participating.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who work shift work.
- People who have travelled across time zones in the past month.
- People who have narcolepsy (a condition causing sudden sleep attacks).
- People who regularly use sleeping tablets or sleep aids.
- People who have severe, unmanaged heart failure.
- People who have central sleep apnea (a different type of sleep apnea) and require oxygen through a nasal tube.
- People whose diabetes is poorly controlled (as measured by a specific blood sugar level test result above 8%).
- People with an active substance use disorder.
- People who have dementia.
- People with bipolar disorder that is untreated — however, people with bipolar disorder who are currently receiving treatment and are considered stable may still be considered (confirm with trial site).
- People with macular degeneration (an eye condition) or who have had laser eye surgery within the past 3 months.
- People who are legally blind.
- People taking medication that increases sensitivity to blue-green light.
- People who are already using bright light therapy.
