Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have had a heart-related event in the past 6 months, such as a heart attack, heart failure, a procedure to open blocked arteries (with or without a stent), heart bypass surgery, or heart valve surgery.
- You currently live in, or plan to live in, the Springfield, MA or greater Detroit, MI area for the next year.
- You are being seen at a cardiac rehabilitation centre at either Baystate Medical Center or Henry Ford Health System.
- You are 60 years old or older.
- You are willing to attend at least 18 cardiac rehabilitation sessions after joining the trial.
- You are willing to attend cardiac rehabilitation at least twice a week.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a permanent irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation.
- You have had a heart transplant.
- You use a mechanical device to help your heart pump blood (called a left-ventricular assist device).
- You have stable chest pain or pressure (stable angina).
- You have serious blockages in your heart arteries that have not been treated with a procedure (confirm with trial site).
- You have a condition affecting the arteries in your legs that causes symptoms such as pain when walking (symptomatic peripheral artery disease).
- You have significant narrowing of the aortic or mitral heart valves.
- You have any other condition that could make exercise testing or exercise training unsafe or difficult.
