Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have had a specific type of heart attack (called STEMI) and have blockages in multiple heart arteries, where the main blocked artery causing the heart attack has already been successfully treated with a procedure to open it up (including people who still have chest pain or related symptoms within 48 hours)
- People where at least one other heart artery (not the one that caused the heart attack) has a significant blockage of 50% or more in a vessel of a certain minimum size, and where a procedure to open that artery is considered possible
- People who are willing and able to sign a consent form before joining the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have been treated with clot-dissolving medication (thrombolytics) for their heart attack
- People experiencing severe heart failure or whose blood pressure is dangerously low (below 90mmHg)
- People with a history of a previous heart attack
- People with a blockage in the left main heart artery, or where the non-culprit artery is completely blocked (known as a chronic total occlusion)
- People who had a heart artery-opening procedure in the past 30 days, or who have previously had heart bypass surgery (CABG)
- People who are unable to give informed consent, or whose life expectancy is less than one year
- People with serious other health conditions, including severely reduced kidney function, liver problems, or low platelet counts
- People with severe heart valve disease, or certain specific heart muscle or lung conditions (confirm with trial site for full details)
- People currently taking part in another study that could affect this trial's results
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a known allergy to any medications that may be used in this trial
- People who may not be able to follow the trial's procedures or attend follow-up visits, or where the treating doctor believes participation may carry too great a risk for that person
