Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older.
- People who have been referred for a catheter ablation procedure (not including AV-junction ablation) for atrial fibrillation — either the type that comes and goes (paroxysmal) or the longer-lasting type (persistent) — at the Department of Cardiology at Gentofte Hospital. This includes both first-time ablation procedures and repeat procedures.
- People who are able and willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known diagnosis of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (a condition involving build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries) (confirm with trial site).
- People who are currently taking statin medications (a type of cholesterol-lowering medication).
- People who have a reason they cannot safely have a coronary CT angiography scan, such as an allergy to the contrast dye used during the scan.
- People who have already had a coronary CT angiography scan, including a calcium score test, within the past 3 years that came back with normal results.
- People who, in the opinion of the trial investigator, have a medical or surgical condition that could increase their risk from taking part, or that would likely prevent them from following the study requirements or completing the trial.
