Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), confirmed either by a tissue sample or by clinical assessment
- People who have not received any previous treatment for their liver cancer
- People who have at least one measurable liver tumour that can be tracked during the trial
- People whose liver cancer may be able to be surgically removed, where the tumour(s) are contained within one side of the liver, with or without limited spread into nearby blood vessels on the same side
- People whose cancer is suitable for a type of internal radiation treatment called SIRT, as assessed by the trial team
- People whose liver is functioning at a healthy level (Child-Pugh Class A) or who do not have liver scarring (cirrhosis)
- People who are generally active and able to carry out daily activities, with only minor limitations (ECOG performance score of 0 or 1)
- People with active hepatitis B, provided antiviral treatment has been used to reduce the hepatitis B virus to a very low level in the blood
- People with hepatitis C, provided they have completed treatment for hepatitis C before joining
- People whose blood test results show that their organs and bone marrow are functioning adequately, meeting specific blood count and chemistry thresholds (confirm with trial site for exact values)
- People with a life expectancy of at least 6 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose tumour involves the main portal vein, both branches of the portal vein, or the large vein running through the body (vena cava)
- People whose tumour has spread beyond one lobe (section) of the liver
- People who have tumours spread across both lobes of the liver
- People whose cancer has spread outside the liver to other parts of the body
- People with serious liver complications such as fluid build-up in the abdomen, bleeding from veins in the oesophagus or stomach, or confusion caused by liver failure
- People with significant heart or kidney problems
- People who test positive for both hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C antibodies at the same time
- People who have had a different type of cancer in the past, other than liver cancer
- People with an infection that is not under control
- People with a history of HIV
- People who have previously had an organ or cell transplant
- People who have a tendency to bleed or have bleeding disorders
