Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are scheduled for your first heart bypass surgery (CABG) that is planned in advance (not an emergency), and at least one vein from your leg will be used during the surgery
- You are able to give your consent to participate and are willing and able to attend all follow-up visits for at least 5 years
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had a recent heart attack or severe chest pain episode within the last year, or recently had a procedure to open blocked arteries (stent/angioplasty) that requires you to stay on two blood-thinning medications after surgery
- You are currently taking or expected to take blood-thinning medication in pill form (such as warfarin or similar medicines)
- You have a heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), whether it comes and goes or is permanent
- You are having any other heart or non-heart procedure at the same time as your bypass surgery
- You have another heart or non-heart surgery planned within one year
- You have serious problems with your kidneys (requiring dialysis), liver, or lungs, or you have cancer or another serious illness where life expectancy is less than 5 years
- The vein in your leg cannot be used for the bypass surgery
- You have a medical reason why you cannot take aspirin
- You have a medical reason why you cannot take the medication ticagrelor, including a known allergy to it, active bleeding anywhere in your body, a history of bleeding in the brain, or you are taking certain other medications that interact with it (confirm with trial site for the full list of interacting medications)
- You are unable to have a special type of heart scan called a coronary CT angiography (a detailed X-ray scan of the heart's blood vessels)
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving a drug or medical device
- You are a woman who could become pregnant
- You experienced a serious complication during or after your bypass surgery, such as a stroke, mini-stroke, heart attack, major bleeding related to the surgery, or a severe infection
