Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer (specifically adenocarcinoma) that has spread to the liver
- People between 18 and 75 years old, of any gender
- People who have already received a first course (first-line) of chemotherapy and whose cancer was either reduced or kept stable by that treatment
- People whose liver metastases were treated with a curative local procedure — such as surgery, ablation, or a focused type of radiation called SBRT — and where scans or biopsies now show no remaining signs of cancer (called "no evidence of disease" or NED)
- People who have either completed a course of additional (adjuvant) chemotherapy after reaching NED, or who did not receive any additional chemotherapy, and whose disease has not progressed — with the last chemotherapy dose given within 2 months before joining the trial
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities meets a certain minimum level, as measured by a standard scoring system (ECOG score of 2 or below)
- People whose blood cell counts are within an acceptable range, as confirmed by blood tests
- People whose liver function test results are within an acceptable range
- People whose kidney function is within an acceptable range, as confirmed by blood tests
- People who are willing to follow the trial treatment plan, take medications as directed, and have signed a form giving their informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer had already started growing or spreading again before joining the trial
- People who have a bowel blockage or partial bowel blockage
- People who have other serious health conditions, such as severe imbalances in body salts (electrolytes) or problems with bleeding
- People with active or uncontrolled serious infections, including: known HIV infection; active hepatitis B infection (confirmed by a specific blood test result); hepatitis C infection with detectable virus in the blood; or other forms of hepatitis or liver cirrhosis
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or women who could become pregnant but are not using adequate contraception
- People with severe brain conditions or mental health disorders — such as severe depression, mania, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or schizophrenia — that affect their ability to accurately report their own symptoms
- People with autoimmune diseases, blood system disorders, a history of organ transplant, or who have been taking steroids or immune-suppressing medications long-term
- People who have had another type of cancer within the past 5 years, with the exception of certain treated skin cancers or early-stage cervical cancer that has been fully cured
- People who have had any organ transplant in the past, including bone marrow or stem cell transplants
- People who are known or suspected to be allergic to the study drug, fruquintinib
- People with high blood pressure that remains uncontrolled despite blood pressure medication (top number at or above 150, or bottom number at or above 100)
- People who have had a serious heart event in the 6 months before treatment — such as a heart attack, severe chest pain, poor heart pumping function on a heart scan, or an irregular heartbeat that is not well controlled
- People whose urine tests show a significant level of protein, confirmed by a 24-hour urine collection result above a certain threshold
