- People who have Type 1 (insulin-dependent) Diabetes
- People who have a serious ongoing illness such as cancer, HIV, or AIDS
- People who have significant depression that may affect their thinking, or who are taking psychiatric or investigational medications, or who have significant problems with their vision or hearing
- People who have bone or joint problems that would prevent them from safely getting into a hot tub
- People who have untreated underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), or a condition that causes difficulty tolerating heat, such as Graves' disease
- People for whom swallowing a temperature-monitoring capsule would not be safe, such as those with inflammatory bowel disease or diverticulitis
