Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are currently incarcerated at one of the participating study sites, whether awaiting trial or already sentenced.
- People who have been diagnosed with HIV and are taking antiretroviral (HIV) medication at the time of joining the study.
- People whose expected release date or trial date is within three months of joining the study.
- People who expect to live in an unrestricted (non-prison) setting within the Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, or Johannesburg districts of Gauteng Province after release, and within a reasonable distance of one of the study's support sites (within 20km, a 45-minute travel time, or two local minibus taxi rides).
- People who are willing to take part in follow-up activities after release and are able to provide contact details for that purpose.
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age.
- People with a severe cognitive or mental health condition that would prevent them from giving informed consent to participate.
- People who are otherwise unable to give informed consent to take part in the study.
- People assessed by correctional facility health staff as needing a higher level of medical care than this type of program can provide (confirm with trial site).
- People who are not released from the correctional facility during the period when the study program is being delivered.
- People who are released to an area outside of Gauteng Province.
