Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have some level of vision loss caused by any eye condition
- People who have recently received their first magnification device from one of the participating clinics — this includes devices such as handheld optical magnifiers, portable electronic video magnifiers, strong reading lenses (+4.00 or higher), smartphone or tablet vision apps, stand magnifiers, or CCTVs
- People who are receiving their device from one of the four academic centre sites or one private practice involved in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose schedules would prevent them from attending the required study visits — for example, those planning to move far from their clinic or take extended trips away during the first four months of the study
- People who have difficulty understanding study instructions or communicating their responses in a consistent way, such as those with more than mild cognitive impairment (as measured by a specific memory and thinking test called the TICS)
- People who have a substance abuse problem
- People with significant hearing loss that would prevent them from communicating by phone or video call
- People with a serious medical condition that is likely to affect their ability to participate or their life expectancy
- People who need other types of low vision support beyond device training — for example, psychological or emotional support services
- People whose magnification device is not compatible with the small Bluetooth tracking sensors used in the study — this applies if the device is hands-free with no part held in the hand during use, if there is no flat surface of at least 1 inch by 1 inch where a sensor could be attached without getting in the way, or if the person uses only a smartphone or tablet vision app (confirm with trial site)
