Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (a type of bile duct cancer near the liver), confirmed through specific tests such as tissue sampling, a blood marker test, or imaging scans showing a blockage that looks cancerous
- People whose cancer cannot be surgically removed, or whose cancer developed in the setting of a condition called primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and may be removable
- People whose cancer has not spread into major blood vessels, outside the liver area, or into nearby lymph nodes
- People with no cancer spread outside the liver region
- People whose tumor measures 3 centimetres or less across at its widest point
- People who were first diagnosed with this cancer at least six months before joining the trial
- People who have received at least six months of standard chemotherapy treatment, with results showing the cancer has stayed stable or partially responded to treatment
Who may not be able to join:
- People with an infection that cannot be controlled
- People who have previously had radiation therapy or chemotherapy (confirm with trial site regarding chemotherapy, given inclusion criteria also require prior chemotherapy)
- People who have previously had surgery on the bile ducts, or where surgery was attempted
- People whose tumor is larger than 3 centimetres across
- People who have cancer that has spread within the liver, or who have a related type of bile duct cancer that starts inside the liver (intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma)
- People with current or past evidence of cancer spread outside the liver area
- People whose tissue sample was taken through the skin using a needle guided by ultrasound or similar imaging (a type of biopsy called percutaneous FNA)
- People who have had a previous cancer, unless it was fully treated more than 5 years ago with no return of the cancer
- People with substance use issues, or medical, psychological, or social circumstances that could affect participation in the study
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People for whom liver transplantation surgery would be medically unsafe
