Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver, confirmed by a biopsy and seen on imaging scans
  • You are reasonably active and able to carry out daily activities (confirm with trial site for specific fitness level required)
  • You have 3 or fewer liver tumors that can be measured on an MRI scan, with the total combined size under 7 cm and each individual tumor smaller than 5 cm
  • Your liver tumors are located a safe distance away from the main blood vessels in your liver (at least 2 cm from the main and branch portal veins)
  • Your liver tumors are located at least 1.5 cm away from your stomach or intestines
  • Your liver tumors are located at least 0.5 cm away from your diaphragm (the muscle below your lungs)
  • Your liver is working well enough, based on blood test results showing normal protein, liver enzyme, and bilirubin levels
  • If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you have a negative pregnancy test within 14 days before starting treatment
  • You have had prior chemotherapy (including through the liver artery) as long as you stopped at least 2 weeks before joining
  • You have had prior targeted therapy or biological treatments as long as you stopped at least 1 week (or longer, depending on the medication) before joining
  • You have cancer outside the liver as well — this is still permitted
  • You have had previous liver surgery, as long as enough healthy liver tissue remains
  • You have had previous radiation to the liver, as long as safe radiation limits can still be met
  • Your case has been reviewed by a specialist liver surgical team before enrollment

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
  • You have previously had a type of internal radiation treatment for the liver called radioembolization or SIRT
  • You have a history of inflammatory bowel disease that makes liver radiation treatment unsafe (confirm with trial site)
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are a man or woman not using effective contraception
  • You are unable to have an MRI scan for any reason — for example, if you have certain metal implants, a pacemaker or defibrillator, severe claustrophobia, or an allergy to the contrast dye used in the scan
  • You are currently receiving any other cancer treatment within 1 week of starting radiation therapy in this trial
